Liver Cleanse

What are those……you ask?

Wrinkled chickpeas?

Sugar coated candies?

Those are gallstones.  Specifically, cholesterol coated gallstones.  The average person has a few to several hundred in their body.  Crazy, right?

You have probably heard of fatty liver disease.  Most people associate this with alcohol.  But did you know it is estimated that 20-30% of adult Americans have NAFLD- Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease.

NAFLD is often linked to obesity, Diabetes, and high Triglycerides (free fats in the blood)

Do you know anyone who eats too many fatty foods and too few vegetables???  Ha!  Much of America, right?

Once a year I do a 1-week cleanse to re-set and re-calibrate my body.  And in general, I eat a diet with a moderate amount of healthy fats and a large amount of insoluble fiber from vegetables and whole grains.  But this year, I decided to up my game and do a 1-week liver cleanse.  Although I am not diabetic and not even pre-diabetic, my HgAb1c and blood glucose were trending in an undesirable direction.  My cholesterol breakdown was also less than optimal.  It is way easier to get ahead of the situation and to change course now, rather than try to reverse a disease once you have it.

To me, my results from the cleanse were shocking.  On the final day, I literally passed around a thousand gallstones!  I retested my labs a week later.  My HgbA1c had dropped 0.4% and nearly fell back into optimal range.  Every aspect of my cholesterol went back to optimal ranges.

But what did I feel you ask?  Because we all want to FEEL better, rather than to just have optimal lab work.   I felt a surge in energy levels, improved mental clarity and focus, and better sleep.  After the first few days I also felt I had sustained energy levels, without cravings, followed by the consumption of a large amount of food, followed by hunger a few hours later again.

Was it painful?  No.

Was it challenging to do?  Somewhat.

Did I eat lots of crazy pills and drink wild concoctions?  No.  I ate healthy food from the grocery store to cleanse my liver, soften the gallstones, and then open the bile ducts.  It was systematic and methodical.

Nearly everyone can benefit from a liver cleanse.  It can help with everything from chronic inflammatory disease to depression to chronic fatigue, and many, many things in between.
