Vitamin J…….Joy!

Daily and unapologetic JOY are vital to our well-being for a multitude of reasons.  I am going to speak specifically about a couple of them. 

 

In a recent blog (link) I spoke about the immune system, and ways to boost it.  When we choose Joy, it allows our immune system to be more effective.  Emotional reactions trigger neuropeptide synthesis.  Neuropeptides are amino acids that act as communication messengers.  They are slow reacting, and therefore their effects are based on the most typical patterns of thought.  Our immune system has receptors for neuropeptides and inflammation.  Therefore, choosing joy helps keep our inflammation at bay and balances our immune system, allowing it to properly react to real threats, such as a virus. 

 

Cultivating Joy also helps with stress management.  It helps to balance our Cortisol levels and keep our adrenals healthy.  Elevated levels of Cortisol can lead to anxiety and low levels of Cortisol can lead to depression.  Both can create a vicious cycle of depleted joy.  Sleep, rest, relaxation, and Joy can help prevent adrenal imbalance. 

 

I whole heartedly encourage you to pursue joy with reckless abandon on a daily basis!  Whether that is time with a beloved pet, being out in nature, enjoying a meal with family, or a hearty laugh with good friends.  Don’t skimp on this vital element of life.
